MILAN DESIGN WEEK 2022

Ahu at 5VIE

7 - 12 June

At 5VIE, Ahu presented a selection of pieces from the studio’s collectible design collection: Ka’Ve coffee tables, where fluid forms meet refined craftsmanship, and Keyf 02, a meticulously detailed minibar.

Each work embodied Ahu’s hybrid approach to making, where advanced digital processes met time-honoured craftsmanship. Separate sections of each piece were formed by different masters and later assembled, bringing together the distinct knowledge and techniques of multiple artisans.

The solid mahogany frame of Keyf 02 was machined from digital data, then hand-finished by a master carpenter and treated with henna to achieve its signature velvety surface. The artwork adorning its panels was applied through a custom digital printing process and sealed under hand-lacquered layers that created a glass-like depth and gloss. Similarly, the fluid forms of the Ka’Ve coffee tables were digitally sculpted and paired with organically shaped plywood legs that enhanced their tactile presence.

Each Ahu design was produced in a limited edition, accompanied by an engraved metal plaque displaying its unique edition number –a testament to its rarity and craftsmanship.
